So apparently, in this one spot where there’s only one road connecting Canada, the bridge broke and is closed for an “indefinite time”. So, eastern and western Canada are now completely separated due to one bridge. Nice.

Is there place on the river for an ice road? I grew up in Maine come winter there were many uncontrolled access points across the rivers

I just looked up the surrounding area on Google Maps, and holy cow, you’re right. There are no good alternative routes. That’s pretty bad!

I don’t know if the ice would be thick enough right now for all the heavy truck traffic that would be going through.

Yeah. I wonder how quick they’ll fix this.

In the meantime, I see a railroad that looks like it’s going to be a critical form of transportation for the near future...

Yeah. I wonder if they could drive trucks over the bridge there?

We are. It’s just now we’re a not very well connected first world country.

Most people drive through the US anyways. Also ferries are numerous up there.

As long as it’s fixed by june, don’t care. Sucks and all, but don’t really care. Nothing in my life depends on the west

I just drove over that bridge. The pylons were confusing as all get out and I accidentally ended up turned around eb on highway 11. I was like “wait....god damn it.”.
I blame the incompetent regime of ontario fully for this.

Fair enough. Sorry to come off that way.
I really wasn’t in a sympathetic mood at that time this morning, it was fuck-these-icy-roads-I’m-going-to-be-using-and-everyone-else’s-problems-can-follow-suit.

100%. If it’s a load going from canada to canada it cannot pass through the USA unless it’s going to campobello island or some other part of canada that is only accessible from the usa.

Lol. Well it shuts down interprovincial shipping by truck between eastern and western canada. And western canada makes most of the food for eastern canada.
